Angelina Jolie (originally Angelina
Jolie Voight) is an American actress and director, best known for her sexual
edginess, sex appeal, and humanitarian work. She won an Academy Award for her
supporting part as a mentally ill patient in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie,
daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent much of her early years in New York before
relocating to Los Angeles at age 11. After two years at the Lee Strasberg
Theatre and Film Institute She enrolled at Beverly Hills High School. She then
studied acting at New York University. Also, she was an actor in theatre
productions. She also performed as a model and in music videos. Jolie met Jonny
Lee Miller (1996 divorced 1999).). The film was not well-loved, and so were
several other films. In 1997, however Jolie received a lot of attention for her
role as the wife of Alabama's segregationist governor in the film George
Wallace, and she was later awarded a Golden Globe Award for her portrayal. In
the HBO film Gia, she was a model who suffered from drug addiction. The actress
was awarded numerous distinctions which included the Golden Globe Award, and
Screen Actors Guild Award. In 1999, she was a part of the comedy Pushing Tin
with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and the following year , she was
married to Billy Bob Thornton (divorced 2003).After the Oscar-winning
performance in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie played a variety of action films. Jolie
portrayed the carjacker's girlfriend (Nicolas Cage), in Gone in Sixty Seconds
2000. Then she switched to a British accent and learned street fighting and
kickboxing in order to take on the roles of Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2001 and
Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life 2003. Jolie played Alexander's mother
in Oliver stone's Alexander in 2004 and she also appeared alongside Jude Law
and Gwyneth paltrow in Sky Captain: The World of Tomorrow The World of
Tomorrow, a thriller that is set in the 1930s in New York City. Both films
disappointed at the box office, but Jolie's Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) was the
biggest success. Jolie played a character who was playing a typical homewife
during the making of the film. Brad Pitt became her co-star.
